Since each component in this mixture has a different triple point, there may be a tendency for the isotopes to separate (fractionate) into one-isotope-rich regions when the liquid is frozen or the solid sublimes during layering, as shown in Fig. 1.

Knudsen layer reduction of fusion reactivity.

Knudsen layer losses of tail fuel ions can significantly reduce the fusion reactivity of multi-keV DT in capsules with small fuel ρr; sizable yield reduction can result for small inertial confinement fusion (ICF) capsules. This effect is most pronounced when the distance from a burning DT gas region to a nonreacting or cold wall is comparable to the mean free path of reacting fuel ions. A simpl...

Energy Gain of Magnetized Cylindrical D-T Targets in Fast Ignition Fusion

In recent years, many different plans have been considered to use the nuclear energy gained from inertial confinement fusion (ICF) as attempts to obtain high energy efficiencies. In conventional ICF methods, a small amount (about mg) of the deuterium–tritium compound is confined in a small spherical chamber of a few millimeters in radius and compressed by laser or heavy ion beams with powers in...

ترابرد نوترون، الکترون و فوتون در ساچمه‌های ICF در حالت اشتعال جرقه‌ای و اشتعال سریع

Fusion energy due to inertial confinement has progressed in the last few decades. In order to increase energy efficiency in this method various designs have been presented. The standard scheme for direct ignition and fast ignition fuel targets are considered. Neutrons, electrons and photons transport in targets containing different combinations of Li and Be are calculated in both direct and fas...

Role of Hydrogen Fractionation in ICF Ignition Target Designs

LLE Review, Volume 105 35 Introduction The need of using cryogenic hydrogenic fuels in inertial confinement fusion (ICF) ignition targets has been well established. Efficient implosion of such targets has mandated keeping the adiabat of the main fuel layer at low levels to ensure drive energies are kept at a reasonable minimum. In fact, it has been shown by many authors that the minimum drive e...
